Welcome to AM Technical Safety

The design and operation of hazardous facilities and processes is regulated by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) - Britain’s national regulator for workplace health and safety – with the aim of preventing work-related death, injury, ill health and damage to the environment.

Technical Safety – often referred to as Process or Functional Safety – is an Engineering discipline specialising in the interpretation and implementation of regulations and guidance beyond the widely understood concept of 'workplace' safety; colloquially referred to as 'slips, trips and falls', or 'boots and hard hats'.

AM Technical Safety specialises in the application of BS EN 61511 (Functional Safety Regulations) in the Process Industry; and Control of Major Accident Hazards (COMAH) Regulations, which aim to prevent and mitigate the effects of major accidents involving dangerous substances which can cause serious damage or harm to people and / or the environment.

AM Technical Safety applies the pragmatic use of the following hazard identification, control and assessment techniques, ensuring that the most appropriate technique is selected and used for the specific lifecycle phase of the Plant or Facility:

  • HAZID;
  • HAZOP;
  • LOPA;
  • SWIFT;
  • Functional Safety Assessment (FSA)

This pragmatic approach ensures that our Clients receive a bespoke solution to meet their immediate requirements; we rely upon a risk-based and proportionate approach to ensure our Clients see the real value in our work with them.

AM Technical Safety employs a number of Consultant Engineers with wide-ranging key skills and experience appropriate for each Project. These skills and experience include IChemE-accredited HAZOP Chair; Functional Safety certified Engineer (TÜV Rheinland); Lower Tier COMAH site experience; Nuclear site experience with appropriate Security Clearance; Oil & Gas Subsea operational experience; Performance Improvement Projects (offshore); shipbuilding and maritime industries. We are equally able to support small projects such as single-system HAZOP studies through to full-scale development of Safety Management Systems from our premises in South Cumbria or Client sites.
